Back in April of 2008 a thread was started on "The Hull Truth" from someone up north that was thinking of buying a boat from us. He wanted to see if anybody else has dealt with us in the past, and what their experiences were. Below is what a few had to say about doing business with us.

There's a used boat for sale at this dealer that I'm looking at(Gaston's Seagate Marine Sales, in Stuart, FL) .
It's 1300 miles each way to see this boat, but it looks like a good boat.
Anyone have positive or negative feedback or firsthand dealings with this dealership? I would hate to find out they are notorious in the local scene after I send a deposit check!
Any input is appreciated.

I purchased a used boat from them last August. I found them to be very reputable. Dave Pringle was my salesman, but I had the opportunity to work with Tommy and Patty Gaston as well. Mine was a long distance purchase too. I am 900 miles away from them in Virginia. The boat was as represented, and they were sincere in their efforts to be sure that I was satisfied with the boat and that the whole rig was prepped and ready to go back up the road. Although I haven't required much after the sale. They have been very receptive to my few inquiries.
I made my deal contingent upon both a marine survey and an engine survey. I paid a small initial fee for a preliminary "drive-by" by the surveyor to check out both the dealer and the boat before moving forward with the surveys. I used a surveyor recommended by my insurance company from well out of the Stuart area to (hopefully) avoid the potential for influence. I also checked them out with the boat's manufacturer to be sure they were in good standing with them. They were one of their premier dealers. Ran their name through the BBB for good measure. No complaints.

The Gaston's are first class. Both Cal and Tommy. They are a rare breed in the boat industry. Ask for Dave or Tommy. Once again you can't go wrong.

I bought my 27 Whaler from them site unseen in 2001. Drove from Canada to tow it home. It was a great boat. Owned it for 5 years and they were very good to deal with.

I bought a consignment boat from them over 10 yrs ago when they were just starting up. I think it was Tommy. They were very above board and straight with me and I called them over the years on other boats. Pretty decent folks, I really liked their style and integrity.

I bought a used boat from them a couple of years ago and they are excellent with high integrity. Tommy the son is great to work with as are the other salesmen. I had a couple of small problems after the sale and they took care of it no questions asked. I also live in Stuart and stop by time to time to window shop and they always give you full attention and respect with none of the normal used boat salesman bs. |
